Indo-Bangla meet on border fencing soon
RAIGANJ, May 16: Members of Indo-Bangladesh Border Survey Committee are likely to meet here soon to take a final decision on the proposed barbed wire fencing project.
According to officials, North Dinajpur district shares 218 km of border with Bangladesh. In a bid to check smuggling and infiltration, an initiative was taken recently by the Border Security Force (BSF) to install barbed wire fencing on the Indian side of the border. Since the pillars of old fencing were damaged due to rain and erosion, the BSF officials want to materialise the barbed wire fencing project as soon as possible.
Senior BSF officials recently met Mr PK Sengupta, district Magistrate of North Dinajpur, and requested him to take necessary permission from the Indo-Bangladesh Border Survey Committee for the installation of barbed wire fencing at the border.
The DM, Mr PK Sengupta, said: “The BSF officials have requested me to seek permission from the authorities concerned to start the barbed wire fencing work. I have already discussed the matter with the officials of Indo-Bangladesh Border Survey Committee. They are likely to hold a meeting over the issue soon.”
